Railing Ideas

One of the biggest decisions you will have to make when building a deck is what to use for a railing. If you have views to protect — like a lake, a pond, a playground, or beautiful landscaping — we recommend using glass or black railings. Both of these will allow you to see through and enjoy the view.

If you would rather have privacy — because of close neighbors, or a hot tub — try using white colored railings to block out sight lines.

Other fun ideas are lights and decorative stone post covers. Both of these add a lot of fun to the railing, but they don't work for everyone.

  • We would only recommend stone if you already have stone on the front of your house, in which case stone post covers would carry the stone look to the rear of the home.
  • Lights are a fun way to light up the back yard, but they can look gaudy if too many are used.

Our professional in-store designers can help you decide which option best meets your needs.
